A Real Story With Real People, And Real Coffee
LivOn! Coffee wasn’t conceived at a marketing meeting or a focus group. Like all good ideas it came from one person and has a very personal real life catalyst.
In 2014, Asanka De Silva was working in marketing for a global alcohol beverage company, when his Mum was diagnosed with liver disease (cirrhosis). Working in that industry, he was all too aware of the relation of alcohol to liver damage.
But his Mom was a teetotaller.
The Little Understood Illness Affecting 1 In 3 In The UK
Yes, you can get major liver damage without touching alcohol. And it’s not uncommon.
Non-alcoholic cirrhosis or Fatty Liver—whatever term you choose, affects 1 in 3 people in the UK and 1 in 4 globally. There’s no cure for it.
To ease symptoms, doctors tend towards advising patients to change their lifestyle.
Awareness is low and there are no easy to spot external symptoms in the early stages. This is a deadly combination as most people who are affected sleepwalk, without warning, into liver disease.
The Birth Of An Idea
Asanka researched the problem further, looking into liver disease and its causes. He didn’t intend to start any business—let alone one focused on liver health. But as John Lennon sang: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”
Much research, many discussions with numerous scientists, experts and generally smart people later, and there seemed to be a unique opportunity to raise awareness of this disease and assist lifestyle change—and do it through antioxidant organic coffee!
More consultations—this time with expert coffee tasters (yes, there’s such a job) roasting specialists and food scientists—followed. Asanka didn’t want to just make sustainable, organic coffee, but antioxidant coffee which tastes really, really great.
Thus, Antioxidant Coffee With A Wellbeing Twist Is Born
Why coffee, you might well ask?
Well, the consensus is that coffee is one of the largest sources of antioxidants in the human diet.
Healthy coffee also seems to be beneficial for your liver, as coffee drinkers have a much lower risk of liver cirrhosis.
LivOn! Coffee is organic with sustainable practices as our bedrock and we donate 5% of every sale is donated to liver research projects.
We offer a great tasting coffee beverage too.
It’s what we do.
